The Bactrian language, also known as Altbaktrish, is an extinct Eastern Iranian language which was spoken in the Central Asian
region of Bactria, and used as the official language of the Kushan and the Hephthalite empires. Linguistically, it is classified
as belonging to the middle period of the Eastern Iranian branch. Bactrian was closely related to the medieval Middle Iranian
languages Sogdian, Khwarezmian and Parthian and shared similarities with the modern Eastern Iranian languages Pashto, Yidgha,
and Munji. |
