Nauete (Naóti) is a language spoken by 13,634 (census 2010) in the subdistricts of Uato-Lari, Uatucarbau and Baguia in southeastern
East Timor. The classification of Nauete is unclear. It is not closely related to other languages. Structurally, it is Malayo-Polynesian.
However, its vocabulary is largely Papuan, similar to that of Makasae. It is one of several such languages included under
the name Kawaimina. |
